This cabinet was brought to the US from Germany in the late 1960s by my father-in-law. The carving is supposedly of the Black Forest.

Marquetry was a feature of some centers of German cabinet-making from c. 1710. The craft and artistry of David Roentgen, Neuwied, (and later at Paris as well) was unsurpassed, even in Paris, by any 18th-century marquetry craftsman.
Jugendstil was an artistic movement, particularly in the decorative arts, that was influential primarily in Germany and elsewhere in Europe to a lesser extent from about 1895 until about 1910. It was the German counterpart of Art Nouveau.
Measures 54.75″ wide x 19.25″ deep X 32.5″ tall.
