We have several walnut pieces which we have owned and enjoyed these for many years and feel it is now time to allow somebody else to have that same pleasure. One is a small, Eastlake-style chest with black cushion top, very handy at the foot of a bed or nearby as a seat for dressing and storage for blankets. It as carved decoration and small, brass casters.
The dining set consists of a round, pedestal table which may be either walnut or mahogany, and four chairs. The seats of the chairs were upholstered several years ago by Andrews, Abbey-Riley and the original geometric needlepoint covers mounted on black velvet cushions at that time. If somebody does not like the needlepoint, the cushions can always be flipped over and some other material mounted over the panel on the back of one of the arm chairs.
There are three larger pieces; all are solid walnut in the Renaissance Revival style, circa 1860s-1870s. One is a three-drawer chest with a hidden fourth drawer and a white Carrera marble top. We have used it as a sideboard with the dining set. We also have some mirrors in antique curved-top walnut frames which we have at time hung above this chest, and others in our home and would consider consigning one or perhaps both, and a similar, medium-size rectangular one, as well.
The desk has always been called the “Wells Fargo desk”. It is a ledger desk, featuring a slightly-slanted top with inlaid leatherette writing surface. It now has a small gallery around the back but originally would have had a large, bookcase on top, generally fitted with slots and compartments for ledgers and daybooks for a business.
Then there is the secretary, a piece which has always drawn comments from visitors. It has a bookcase and large, bonnet top over a three-drawer base with two small drawers and a fold out writing surface lined with green felt. It has been fitted with glass shelves, lighting, and a neutral fabric backing. In that mode, we have used it for crystal in a dining room or display of small antique items in a living room setting. The original wooden bookshelves have been retained and the original wooden brackets are in place so it can still serve as a bookcase if desired.
All items are in good, clean condition, although the table top has some wear from the past years of use. We look forward to hearing from you if any of these are of interest. Photos are attached.
